Hints And Advice For Growing An Organic Garden

By Jeff

There are a lot of methods out there for creating a brilliant organic garden. You just need to learn them and use them.

If you are going to be doing some horticulture, watch out for stink bugs, especially in the fall! Stink bugs like to reside in tomatoes, beans, and pepper plants, as well as many fruits. If you do not check, they do a lot of damage to plants so try to get rid of them if you can.

Tempt your cat away from the plants he has been bothering by planting catnip or wheat grass near them. Another option is to place something smelly, like citrus peels or mothballs, on the soil surrounding the plants that have previously been eaten.

Do you hate how fresh mint leaves grow and take over your lovely garden but still like them? That’s why it’s better to place mint in containers rather than letting it have free rein in your garden. You can plant the container into the soil if you want to, but the container will restrict the roots, and make sure that the plant doesn’t run rampant in your garden.

Irises should be divided. You can divide those overgrown clumps and increase the amount of irises you have. Pick up bulbous irises after the foliage dies. The bulbs split in your hand, then you replant them, and they will most likely flower next year. Use a knife to carefully divide rhizomes. Discard the center and cut pieces from the exterior. Don’t plant any pieces that don’t have any strong offshoots. You also need to make sure that you replant the new pieces as soon as possible.

Natural materials or some other plants can be used in your garden for keeping away pests. A good way to keep slugs away is to create a border with onions around a garden with vegetables. Marigolds would do this trick as well. Insects also avoid shrubs and trees that are mulched with wood ash. When done naturally, there is no need for pesticides with harsh, and sometimes dangerous, chemicals

To deter meddlesome dogs from destroying your garden, you should use heavily scented substances around the perimeter. You can even use perfume! Doing so shields the scents that your dog might pick up on and be drawn to, causing their potential interest in your garden to drop dramatically.

Any time that you are gardening in direct sunlight, dress appropriately to prevent skin damage. Wear sunglasses and hats with wide brims, and apply sunscreen. If you properly protect yourself from the sun, you will not get a sun burn and you will decrease your risk of getting skin cancer.

A great way to ensure that your organic garden will do well is to keep a section of your land unspoiled. The natural wildlife will spring up and make for a perfect organic habitat. The presence of native flowers, trees and grasses will attract birds and insects. You will be rewarded by an appealing and flourishing landscape.

You will garden more efficiently if you keep your tools close by. You can wear an apron or pants that have a lot of pockets, or use a big bucket or can. Make sure your trowel, pruning shears, gloves and other important tools are always handy. This will allow you to make easy work of your gardening up-keep!

Once your seeds start sprouting, they do not need as much warmth as they needed before. As your baby plants grow, you can move them from their heat source. You can now take off any protective coverings on your plants that were there to shield them from the elements. Observe your seeds carefully so that you can make these changes as soon as they start sprouting.

While anybody can plant a few seeds, only people who’ve educated themselves can create an amazing, thriving organic garden. Try using these organic tips.
